Dim Sum Diaries
Okay, now it is 3 am pst and I can't sleep at all. My mind keeps racing about a lot of things. First and foremost seems to be the big news that Saddam was executed. I mean I vaguely knew that Saddam was on trial, but I didn't really pay attention, assuming that somehow the whole process would be similar to Slobodan Milosevic's trial at The Hague, taking a long ass time to complete and he'd be locked up in some tiny cell somewhere till the end of time. Apparently I was wrong.

12/29/06 seemed so surreal, with CNN.com and MSNBC.com blaring headlines of SADDAM EXECUTION IMMENINT AT 10 PM EST. At the moment (6:30 pm pst) I checked the clock and I was like holy crap, less then half an hour away! Were they really going to do it like RIGHT THEN??? I was playing WoW at the time and periodically alt-tabbed to check the news sites if it had been done. Sure enough at 7:20ish pst (I think around then), MSNBC.com was the first site I checked that announced Hussein was dead. It took CNN.com a good 5-10 minutes later to update. Many I talked to online were happy that he was dead. Not that I disagree that he was a horrible man, but the swiftness, method and the relish with which they executed him...somehow so violent, so macabre.

It seems upsetting to me mostly because it brings back feelings of how I felt back when this war first started. Anger and a sense of helplessness...

I don't know anymore.
I was trying to think about how to describe how the holidays went down at Chez Mir, but I'm afraid all you would get is endless oohing and ahhing over the food, the presents, the bonding time with family, etc etc etc...

Mayhap I shall do that in another post, but for now I will only post FOODGASM pics from Christmas dinner, courtesy of my younger sister N:

Brussel spouts with bits of bacon and also sauteed mushrooms:

Now that I've actually sat my butt down to write something of consequence, my mind goes completely blank. Go figure.

Well the great news is that I've just been informed that a blog entry I submitted to a magazine (online) is going to be published! And I get paid for it! Holy crap! I'm so excited! And I'm going to end all my sentences with exclamation marks for the rest of this entry! Seriously though, I won't give any specifics until "the proof is in the pudding", so to speak (yes I am that paranoid that it may not happen), but as soon as its been published, I'll link it from here. So its like my first paid piece and wow...a bit of validation...I seriously didn't think I would hear from this mag, but its turned out well I think.

In other news, this job opportunity I talked about before, it looks like an almost sure thing, I just have to wait a bit longer. In the meantime tho, I'm temping for the week at this design place. I'll blog about it more in detail once the assignment is over. :p

I'll blog more later as I am getting tired...let's just say I am very emotionally happy these days. Every event is a bloody Hallmark card commercial.

A few examples:

--Hubby staying at home with the kids and offering to cook for me when I get home from work? OMG. Weeping.

--Went to kid's birthday party (lunch hour) and there was only enough pizza for the kids and not the parents (I have strong feelings on feeding the parents...DUH). I was bloody hungry (but couldn't really say anything obviously) so Daughter grabs a piece of her pizza (she had 2) and she shared it with me. OMG! Totally emotional over that.

--Mom is making vegetable soup with the Honey Baked ham bone frozen from Thanksgiving...this gets me emotional...do not ask me why lol.

I'm really enjoying the holiday season this year, it is much improved from last year and I really wish my dear readers...the new and the ones who have stayed with me through the years the happiest of holidays. *hug hug kiss kiss

Update: Guesstimation here, looks like it might be next Thursday.

UPDATE UPDATE AS OF 12/28: Okay, I think next Thursday lol...Details to come...
Looky there at that tumbleweed there...yeah haven't posted in awhile, but I think I have some exciting news which I will share soon. So I'll write more later! :)
A hilarious video of one Asian man's musings on why Asian chicks prefer white guys:

Note to self: Try to find this movie and watch it soon!

PS - Seem to be getting more into following Asian issues lately.

PPS - I'm still a total sucker for a love story...as long as it DOESN'T INCLUDE THE PHRASE PREGNANCY OF PASSION IN THE TITLE.

What in the hell happened to the pretty template Berklee made??? Well I upgraded to the new version of Blogger, so I had to pick a crappy looking template with the new features, and I have to rework the old code back into this new one...so we'll see how fast I can get it done. o_O

UPDATE: I just went ahead and restored the old one. Nifty as the new widgets may be on the new template, I have neither the time or energy to merge the two templates together. Y'all are just gonna have to suffer as technology whooshes by DSD. :)

In the meantime, enjoy pics of:

Now that I have inhabited this plane of existence for 34.5 years, my tastes in certain things have changed. For example, I wear my hair longer then I used to (I used to be a short hair fanatic). The same can be said for literature, I enjoy fiction (Nicole Krauss' History of Love is a good example). Not so much on the romance genre, sad to say. Except for my all time fave authors like Lisa Kleypas, I'm not so big on impulse buy for romances anymore. So imagine my SHOCK AND HORROR when I got this email from amazon.com...

Dear amazon.com customer...perhaps you might enjoy this book!!!

Pregnancy? Of Passion? Dear God.

The book blurb must be read with a fake, BAD italian or spanish accent otherwise you won't do it justice:

It was a year since their tempestuous affair had ended. So why was he back? Elisa trusted Salvatore di Vitale as far as she could throw him. And, as the wealthy Sicilian was over six feet tall, that wasn't very far.

Salvatore told Elisa he had come to protect her. And if their close proximity led to passion…and if passion should lead to pregnancy, all the better! Because then Elisa would have to marry him, which was Salvatore's plan all along.

Holy crap its Tom Cruise!

I rather think Heather Armstrong (Dooce) summed the pregnancy process best:

And I agree, “Yes. There is nothing you could do to me, except maybe infect me with your sperm, and then there were those 13 weeks of unending nausea, and then the swelling and the inability to hold my pee for more than three minutes. Oh, and then the hours and hours of labor with contractions 10 seconds apart, and the head of the baby RIPPING APART MY VAGINA, and then the stitches, and then the constipation and RIPPING APART OF THE STITCHES, and then the six weeks of bleeding, and then the cracked nipples, oh and those bladder infections from the catheter. Did I mention the clogged milk ducts in my breasts?”

Yeah amazon.com...I don't think I'll be buying this book anytime soon...thank you very much.
